Yesterday in all Riga Clubs was a costume party devoted to Halloween. Just (to feel) is a new club in Old Town in the place of the former Zebra club, just across Coyote Fly. It is like a drain club of Coyote Fly. Almost all the people who couldn't get into Coyote go to Just Club :)
Usually I don't post photos of traffic accidents, which are more than regular events in Riga. But in this case, I just curious how driving school car could get there? :) This picture was observed today on 11. Novembra krastmala during sunset.
Oliveoil is the name of Italian restaurant located in Old town on Jana iela. There are so many Italians and Italian places in Riga, so it could be possible that Italian could be the 3rd most popular native language of people living in Riga after Latvian and Russian of course. BTW, Halloween is coming this weekend :)
Usually I see similar pictures in music clip scenes about some famous American rockstars, but I didn't expect to see such abundance in Riga :) In this hangar are five small private planes like Cessna 172 and additional free space for the sixth one.
This modern Soviet Building is the headquarter of two extremely popular Latvian media channels European Hits Radio and Latvijas Neatkarīga Televīzija (Latvian iNdependent Television) The building itself is built in 1986 on Elijas iela 17, Maskachka in Soviet Avant-garde architecture style.
Galleria Riga is the name of the newest Shopping center in Riga, which opened its doors just 2 days ago.
It seems that stakeholders and/or designers has very narrow imagination to name it like that, because
3: name Riga is already taken by another shopping mall Riga Plaza;
4. it's stupid to name some place with the same name as the city it is located in. E.g. I can't imagine New York Mall in New York, or Café de Paris in Paris.
Although interior designers had done their job perfectly, the mall looks great, especially the terrace on top. Fresh photos of Riga roofs are coming!
Morkovka (carrot) is colloquial name for shopping center located on the crossroads of Ilukstes & Deglava streets. It was built in the end of 1980s and painted in absolutely irregular color for Soviet times - the orange one. Nowadays the whole area around this building is called Morkovka, although it is not so orange as before. Morkovka is also kind of nightlife center. Some main residents of the building are Enigma nightclub, Fortuna casino and Deli cafe.
Ķīpsala Tunnel is connecting two parts of Kipsala island-neighborhood through Vansu Bridge. The tunnel is city-wide famous for its rich graffiti collection. See the photo collection of tunnel graffiti.
This photo was taken in Bernu Pasaule shopping center, which is almost fully occupied by Gerkens un Partneri, one of the cheapest clothes retailer in Latvia. Cheap retailer doesn't mean that this shop is something like T.K. Maxx or Marshalls, because all products here are one brand only - "Noname" P.S. Bērnu apģērbi in Latvian means Clothes for Kids
Materiālzinātnes un lietišķās ķīmijas fakultāte (Faculty of Materials Science and Applied Chemistry) is a department of Riga Technical University, the second largest university in Riga and Latvia. Since being formed in 1862, the chemistry faculty was part of different education institutions like Riga Polytechnic Institute and then part of Latvian University. In 1990 it became part of RTU. The Rigan Wilhelm Ostwald, the Nobel prize winner, used to work in this faculty 1880s. The building itself was built in the middle of 1970s.
Purvciems (Marsh Ville) aka Purchik is the most populous neighborhood in Riga. 62,000 people live in Purvciems, which became part of Riga only in 1935. Although sovietization began in early 1970s. Minsk and Mebelu Nams are the best known reference points in Purvciems. Picture has been taken during Airplane Tour over Riga.
The highest density of sport venues in Riga is in Mezaparks area, next to Kisezers lake, although most of them are just training fields with no places for spectators. I guess on this picture I can count more than 20 playing fields for football, tennis, etc.
It happened that Riga has no Disney Land or any other amusement park like in many other big cities. So many traveling Luna Parks are often Riga guests. Usually they are being hosted at Central Station Square or next to Elkor Plaza, like this one or another one before. Check the photo of another Amusement park, which was here, at the same place 2 years ago.
Rīgas Centrāla bibliotēka (Riga Central Library) was the first public library in Riga, and get opened in 1905. Today it is one of few municipal libraries which are still left within Riga borders. Library resides in Soviet-type building at Brivibas iela 49/53, which is historically called Rigas Modes (Riga Fashion) The building itself was the first structure in Latvia, which had a panoramic elevator. Check the Hoods.
Two perfectly straight lines going down beyond the horizon are Brivibas gatve aka road to Saint Petersburg and the railway of the same direction. Photo has been taken during Air Tour with Jonathan and James.
Barona Centrs is one of few large shopping centers, which are located within Riga downtown. It was open in 2001 on crossroads of Barona and Gertrudes, at the empty space, which was left after air bombing during Second World War.

Psst.. you are always very welcome to drop some coins and your help is very appreciated. Please donate :)
A typical Soviet quadrangle, which was playground and place of the first smoked cigarette for many of Rigans. This picture could be taken in any of Riga Soviet neighbourhood, but this is Ziepniekkalns.
Today is the day of Latvian Parliamentary election 2010. Latvian people are choosing their servants for the next 4 years, who will work in Saeima, the Latvian parliament. The biggest problem of Latvia is the absence of the strong and powerful leader and a lot of small parties were always scattered the power among themselves. I must admit that Latvia is going in a right direction now, this year we have only 5 parties to choose between.
